Artist E. Jackson
Earl Jackson, a multi-media artist, is best known for his signature painting, “Following the Path”, which portrays a rite of passage ceremony for African American females. He was influenced to paint this work after traveling to Senegal West Africa in 1985 and Kenya in 1988 where he was ceremoniously initiated as a junior Elder in the Kikuyu nation.

Earl was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and reared in the Willow Run Community College of Ypsilanti, Michigan. He attended Washtenaw Community College and Eastern Michigan University. Earl’s art has been exhibited at Washtenaw Community College Art Gallery, University of Michigan Museum of Art, Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry, and the National Gallery of Art in Dakar Senegal, West Africa. Other exhibitions include American Vision 145 Gallery in New York, New York; Charles Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, Michigan; Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center in Birmingham, Michigan; African American Cultural and Historical Museum in Ann Arbor, Michigan; National Conference of Artists Gallery in Detroit, Michigan; State Capital Building in Lansing, Michigan; National Blacks Arts Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, Cherokee Cultural Art Center, Woodstock, Georgia. The Nina Simone Experience, Atlanta, Georgia, and Roswell City hall, Roswell, Georgia.
In August 2002 Earl’s spiritual work, “They Would Pin Their Prayers to a Cloud” was procured by the Ypsilanti District Library for display in their permanent collection. Earl has been a member of the National Conference of Artists since 1983. He is a founding member of the African American Cultural and Historical Museum in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Earl resides in Marietta, Georgia where he continues to pursue his passion for creative art.
